Exciting news! Biola English alum and SUNY Albany professor Wendy Raphael Roberts recently discovered a previously unknown poem, dated 1767, by Phillis Wheatley, a key figure in early American Literature who is "widely regarded as the first Black person, enslaved person and one of the first women in America to publish a book of poetry." The Boston Globe covered the story, which you can read here. If you'd like to read more about Dr. Roberts's work, including her book on early American evangelical poetry, check out our interview with her from 2021.
